Biography

Zac Taylor Schindler is in his final year at the Royal Academy of Music where he studies primarily with Julian Siegel.

Drawing influences from Wayne Shorter, Joe Lovano, Charles Lloyd (to name a few), Zac has developed a Free yet melodic approach to improvisation, both on jazz standards and his original music with his Quartet. His compositions often show curiosity and combine his love of the jazz idiom with modern composers such as Paul Motian, Geri Allen, and Dayna Stephens. He binds these influences together with a love of communication and connection between fellow musicians and the audience.

Recently, inspired by the works of his favourite poets, Zac has begun composing with text. His new project ‘Unspoken’ seeks to translate the emotions drawn from poetic text to a musical context. While the poems aren’t sung, the cadence of the poems are represented in his instrumental melody writing with the text on display for the audience.
